A SCARBOROUGH student captured this striking image of forked lightning during last Sunday's spectacular thunderstorm.
Freddy Wharton, 23, was videoing the storm from the back door of his home in Racecourse Road, East Ayton, and got this shot by taking a still image from the footage.

He said: "I was watching the thunderstorm with my little brother and sister, who are nine and four. They weren't scared but were really excited.

Mr Wharton, who is studying Internet Computing at the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus, added that he was pleased with how the picture came out, especially as he does not normally take a lot of photos.

You can view the short video clip of when the lightning struck.
