EXPERTS probing the destructive landslip at Knipe Point have taken samples of the water which is now causing new cracks to appear daily.
Residents remain baffled by the source of a stream of water which can be seen trickling down the cliff every day.

Halcrow Consulting Engineers, based in Birmingham, hope the tests will reveal the water's source.

Further cracks have now appeared in front of the bungalow which is set to be demolished tomorrow.

Geomorphologist John Carey said: "We are trying to find out where the water is coming from. We need to know whether it is natural ground water or if it is coming from another source. We have taken samples of the water and hope to get the results within the next few weeks."

The land in front of the latest bungalow facing demolition continues to crumble, bringing the property dangerously close to the cliff edge.

The secretary of the Knipe Point Owners Association, Michael Turner, said: "There is activity every day now. In the morning the water starts trickling. It is very strange as it is starting at about the same time every day. It sometimes continues into the afternoon.

"There is a huge stream of it now and you can see huge pools of water.

"It is as if someone is turning on a tap in the morning. We just want to know where this is coming from.

"It is very frustrating for us.

"We need to know where it is coming from. Hopefully the investigations by Halcrow will determine the source and then we can go from there."

The latest bungalow set for demolition is number 21, owned by retired couple Kevin and Mary Lloyd. It is expected to be torn down tomorrow by Oakleys Plant Ltd.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd have now returned to Redcar as they "could not bear" to watch their holiday home knocked down.

it must be difficult to try and work out where the water is coming from but as water flows downhill the resevoir across the street and on higher ground than knipe point has to be a favourite

Whilst out walking we have noticed water running out of banks in different areas. Even in Peasholm Park near to the Columbus Ravine area all the grass is boggy and very wet. It is also wet up the glen, but it has been for years.

Water is also running out of the bottom of Spring Hill and that has been the same for years. However several weeks ago water spouted out of the road in Park Avenue and was running for weeks.

I see they are doing major work on the reservoir at the top of the park now. So I wonder had it sprung a leak?

Out walking with the dog this afternoon - we headed for the stretch of beach (dont know what its actually called) between the golf club and Knipe Point. This was the first time we'd been that way since September last year, and the number of little streams of water running from the higher ground down the the beach were very noticeable - certainly many more and in greater quantity than any previous year.

As already commented upon, the reservoir on the other side of the main road maybe a possible water source. Other possiblities are:
1. cracked drainage pipes.
2. Is the rainfall run-off from the houses piped into the main drains at the site or does it all enter soakaways.
3.The rainfall run-off from numerous conservatories at this site are not connected to any main drainage - the run-off is either fed into soakaways or directly onto the ground.

Ifind it very strange that it has been known that the land at knipe point has been slipping for months but we wait until peoples homes start having to be knocked down before any tests are done and then no one wants to pay to try and save these peoples homes its a lovely spot we are so quick to send money abroad when peoples lives and property are threatened maybe for once we should do some thing to help our land and people

After following this dreadful story over the last month now what seemed like an act of nature seems more like human error now. This water must be coming from some source near by, stopping and starting at the same times of the day. Come on surely someone knows where the source of the water is coming from. Put yourself in the place of the residents there how would you feel if it was your home. Enough is enough its time something more positive was done.
