CHARITY trekkers raised thousands of pounds over the bank holiday weekend at the annual Rotary Crown Tavern Walk.
More than 130 people took up the challenge which raised more than £6,000 for local charities.
Participants chose from two routes; an eight-mile walk from Hayburn Wyke to the Crown Tavern, or a longer stretch which covered 22 miles starting at Hawsker Village Hall, near Whitby. Both followed the route of the former Scarborough to Whitby rail line.
All the proceeds from the event went to charities, Mencap, Scarborough Disabled Swimming group, Scarborough Deaf Children, Wilf Ward Trust and visually impaired children.
The event, which saw in its 31st year yesterday, was supervised by Scarborough Amateur Radio Society and members from the Rotary Club, who made sure all participants passed each checkpoint safe and well.
Rotarian Ian Forbes, said: "The event went very well indeed. The weather was very kind to us. We had nearly twice as many as last year doing the longer walk." Among the walkers was 90-year-old Dougie Stubbs, children, friends, family and pet dogs.
Gordon's Clan walked in memory of Jean Sharp's husband. Her and her family, which included Debbie Murphy and some of Mrs Sharp's great grandchildren, Chloe, eight, Amber, eight and Callum, nine, all completed the eight-mile walk.

Another four of their family completed the 22 mile walk. Mrs Sharp said: "It's been a fantastic day. We were tired, but it's well worth it."
Participants were treated with food, drink and entertainment provided by the Hamps Street Band, Belle Bottom Blues and EJ the DJ.
Mr Forbes said: "I would like to thank the Rotary Club for marshalling, Scarborough Amateur Radio Society for providing the Radio Link and the Samaritans for providing the catering at the Crown Tavern. And big thank you to everyone that has taken part and everybody that sponsored them."
