SCARBOROUGH'S favourite DJ Sir Jimmy Savile is delighted at the return of Top of the Pops this Christmas.
The veteran presenter hosted the first ever show on January 1 1964 and made a special appearance on what was thought to be the last ever TOTP in June 2006.
Now the BBC has confirmed there will be two special one-off shows on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
They will be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates, but Sir Jim is keeping his fingers crossed he could make a special guest appearance.
He said: "I think it's marvellous – Top of the Pops is what we need to brighten the world up. The prospect of it coming back is really something.
"Pop music sells dreams – girls love pop records because they mirror their love-lives and boys always dream about playing the guitar in a group."
