COUNTY engineers are set to install more drains on the Reighton bypass after complaints about flooding of surrounding land.
County councillor John Blackburn said the council had £40,000 in reserve for carrying out the work.
Speaking to parish councillors, he said: "The work was not in the original schedule and that was a mistake, so the county council has to pick up th
e bill."
The latest development is another blow to the long-awaited road, which has still not been officially opened even though it has been open to traffic for nearly a year.
Cllr Blackburn said: "We have to stop water getting onto the bypass because vehicles have been aquaplaning.
"We have been given some money to do some odd bits of work and need to somehow divert this water. We know what we have got to do and we have got the money to do it. Now it's just a matter of finding the best way forward."
The road, which cost £6.6 million, was designed by consultants Mouchel Parkman and built by Balfour Beatty on behalf of the county council.
But problems such as the height and slope of the road forced the authority to re-apply for planning permission after its construction was widely complete.
In the past, heavy rain has led to flash flooding in the village, partly caused by the bypass and also because the drainage is too old and not big enough to take the volume of water.
There have also been issues with the works' compound and the amount of debris left next to the road. The road will not be adopted by the county council until it is satisfied with all aspects of the work.
