Yorkshire out to hunt down bears

SCARBOROUGH'S cricket fans won't be the only ones watching with a keen eye when Yorkshire tackle the Warwickshire Bears in the Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final on Saturday.

As well as Yorkshire's England candidates; Ajmal Shahzad, Adil Rashid, Adam Lyth and Andrew Gale, Warwickshire's Ian Bell should be continuing his road back to full fitness after a foot injury as he looks to sew up a place on this Winter's Ashes tour, and the selectors will be no doubt be watching.

Bell played an instrumental part in Warwickshire's victory over Nottinghamshire that booked their semi-final date with Andrew Gale's men, and he will be looking to impress the England selectors again at North Marine Road.

The stylish middle-order batsman will be up against one the most feared bowling attacks in English domestic cricket at present on Saturday should he be on the team-sheet.

Fast bowler Ajmal Shahzad, who may be available despite his selection for the England squad, bowls upward of 90mph in probing areas, and he is backed up superbly by the leg-spin of Adil Rashid, the pace of young Oliver Hannon-Dalby and the accuracy of medium pacers Richard Pyrah and Anthony McGrath.

But the Bears also have a decent bowling attack in their armoury.

Irish pace merchant Boyd Rankin will offer bounce and hostility, while all-rounders Rikki Clarke and Neil Carter will have to play a prominent role with both bat and ball if the Bears are to seal their passage to Lord's.

Yorkshire will most likely again rely on the likes of South African Jacques Rudolph, captain Gale and Scarborough left-hander Lyth to make the big runs needed to take the White Rose to the CB40 final.

Yorkshire will be without all-rounder Tim Bresnan who is with the England squad, and could be without Shahzad who is in the squad but may be released to play in the semi-final clash.

Warwickshire will be without England's man of the moment Jonathan Trott.

l Tickets are still available for the highly anticipated clash.

Priced at 15 for adults and 10 for concessions, they can be purchased at North Marine Road, from Headingley, at www.yorkshireccc.com, or by calling 0871 971 1222.

If the game is called-off for any reason, the fixture will be played on the reserve day on Sunday.

Any ticket bought for Saturday will be valid for the reserve day as well.
