Wright gearing up for success

TEENAGE ace Coby Wright has been gearing up for life in the world of motor-cross.

The 14-year-old was introduced to motor sport at the age of just four when he got his very first bike.

At the age of nine he progressed to a KTM 85 moto X bike and just a couple of years after that started racing when he joined the East Riding MX club based near Driffield.

Wright said: “In raced in the KTM for two seasons where I picked up the odd injury but I managed to win a few races.

“In 2009 I got a Suzuki RM 125 and entered in the under-17 class.

“I was 13 but my speed was good and I wanted to tough it out against the older and bigger lads.

“Each race is about 20 minutes long and there are three races in all but there are nine different classes.

“Each class has three races and a practice session so a typical race day can last between 10 and 14 hours.”

Coby travels all over Yorkshire competing and has so far collected 30 trophies.

The 2009 season never really took off for Coby after suffering injuries.

He added: “I broke my knee badly away skiing and after recovering from that I broke my wrist and collar bone while on my BMX.

“When I finally got going on an a 125cc I was rarely out of the top four placings and led the final race of the season.

“Unfortunately I crashed out with just two corners to go.”

The sport keeps both Coby and his father Dave very busy.

Coby said: “We go all over practising in the winter come rain or shine and you need to be very dedicated to participate.

“This year my top aim is to be the under-17 champion om my Suzuki 125 and I will be up against the older lads on 250cc bikes.

“I am confident that not only can I compete with them but also that I can beat them.

“I would like to thank Andy from APS, Chris from CST, Dave and Nick from D W Motorcyles and both my dad Dave and stepmum Paula for their support.

“I hope to continue in the sport for a long time and be a success.”
