Trafalgar dig deep for draw at Newlands

CHAMPIONS Trafalgar had to battle back from a goal behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at Newlands.

A Paddy Mancrief header put Newlands ahead after only 20 minutes, but Martin Cooper marked his debut with an equaliser, lobbing his shot over the Newlands keeper.

A minute before half-time Lee Cappleman restored Newlands' lead with a thumping 30-yard shot.

Ten minutes after the interval Newlands were reduced to 10 men when Jamie Gallagher was shown the red card for a professional foul, and just after the hour mark player-manager Joel Ramm earned a point for Traf with a header from Nick Beal's cross.

Newlands' 10 men hung on for a deserved point, with Matty Griffiths their star man.

Leaders Star eased to a 10-1 home win against United Sports.

Chris Stubbings led the way with a hat-trick, while man of the match Mark Barber and Marc Griffiths also scored two apiece.

Ben David, Paul Towell and Shaun Dodson also scored for the pacesetters, Matty Turner hitting United's consolation goal.
