Town finally set to face rivals Jarrow

SCARBOROUGH Town finally look set to play their Shipowners Cup tie against Jarrow tomorrow, 2pm. kick-off

The fixture has been postponed on six occasions already, though with the weather picking up this week, its should take place in Jarrow this weekend.

The cup tie was originally set to take place at Town’s Pindar base, though a league ruling moved up north after the third postponement.

Wherever it is played, Town boss Mitch Cook is confident of a good performance by his young side.

One blow for the Town manager is the absence of son Nathan, who will be missing from the midfield due to suspension.

Cook said: “Hopefully we will finally get this game played now, it has been a bit of a saga.

“It was called off at our place a couple of times and the Wearside League set a precedent after this by switching it to their ground.

“Since then the game has been postponed a few more times up here, even though our pitch has been playable.

“We just want to get the game out of the way, wherever it is played. There is a semi-final berth at stake, so there is definitely a lot to play for.

“They had a brilliant result in midweek when they managed a goalless draw against league leaders Ryhope, so they will obviously be in confident mood.

“They also have the home advantage, so our lads will have to be at their best to pick up the result we want.”

Town will welcome defender Matty Perry and goalkeeper Ricky Ossai back into the squad, while Dean Craig will continue after making a full recovery from a knee injury.

Attacker Robbie Hawkes may take a dip into Saturday League action, as he pushes to recover from a similar problem.

Cook added: “Robbie has felt a bit of pain after training, so we are continuing to ease him back into it.

“Hopefully he will have a local run-out tomorrow.”
