Star shine in Super start
The long trip to Bradford proved a very successful one for Scarborough's representatives in the Yorkshire super league darts division one.
After relegation from the Premiership and a move to a new home venue, The Star in Cayton, the boys returned with an emphatic six two victory.
The first match of the night set the standard as the very talented Yorkshire county player Graham Elvidge powered to a three one victory with a man of the match performance.
This included a classy 92 finish (20, double 20, double 16) and a perfectly timed maximum 180 in the fourth leg of the match.
His opponent had no answer to Graham's powerful scoring, which was highlighted with no fewer than nine ton plus scores in four legs of darts.
Match two brought Malton's Steve Oldfield to the oche and last season's poor form was soon to be forgotten as he romped to a very clinical 3-0 whitewash.
Despite a nervy opening leg Steve totally dominated the match and then won the deciding leg with a quality 16- darter.
Debutant Olly Mitchell was next up for Star.
A very confident performance resulted in a very impressive 3-0 victory.
Showing no signs of nerves a 113 finish to seal the match was the highlight of a faultless performance and there is no doubt he is going to prove a very valuble addition to the squad.
A 3-2 defeat for Jim Gordon in match four was soon put right in match five as Pickering's Phil Bointon recovered from losing the first leg to totally dominate the match and record a 3-1 victory in which his lethal finishing proved key.
John Spoors was the winner of match six to put The Star 5-1 up and guarantee victory.
After losing the first leg John took advantage of some sloppy finishing to record a very valuable 3-1 victory.
Andrew 'Roo' Rowley showed tremendous scoring power, top notch finishing and great bottle to win match seven.
In a high-scoring encounter 'Roo' was matched dart for dart but was too deadly on his doubles for the Bradford player which resulted in a confidence boosting 3-1 victory.
Despite a loss for a very rusty Ade Morris who was beaten 3-2 in the final match of the night.
The overall 6-2 victory could not be faulted and the great team spirit will hold the team in great stead for will be a long hard season as they push to regain their premiership status.
Next up for the Scarborough lads are the newly-promoted Kettlethorpe Hotel from Wakefield on Sunday September 19.
This will be the first home game at The Star pub.
All spectators are very welcome for what will hopefully be another cracking night of darts.
