Seadogs fans in fine form

THE Scarborough Athletic FC supporters' team Seadogs FC is in fine form at the start of the new season.

Although the side don't play in a competitive league, they pit themselves against local league sides and fellow local fans' teams - wearing a strip sponsored by the SAFC Supporters' Club featuring the Back2Boro campaign logo.

And the side, skippered by Commercial FC manager Geoff Osguthorpe, are unbeaten in five matches at the start of the 10-11 season.

Most recently Seadogs beat Sunday League side Weaponness 8-0 on Tuesday, with Boro director James Hunter grabbing a brace, along with Boro board election candidate Chris Rooke who also scored twice.

Rob Ward, Azza Birley, Luke Foster and Steve Mothersdale notched the other goals.

Foster and Mothersdale also netted in the previous game at Whitby Wanderers - both making their debuts - on Saturday August 21, and a late Hunter penalty equalled the score at 3-3.

A 1-0 win against Sunday League side Ayton Reserves was secured in mid-August - Rooke notching from close range.

And the Seadogs recorded their biggest ever win of 10-1 a week before, beating Weaponness for a first time.

Rooke bagged four goals, with Hunter, Ward, Boro reserves star Stuart Wallace, Gavin Avison, George Elliott and an own goal completing the scoring.

The side's first game of the current season was at Eastway against Whitby - a 4-4 draw in which Elliott and Wallace netted individual goals and Hunter scored another brace.

A running battle continues up front, as Hunter and Rooke have now both scored 25 goals for the side. Their next game is at Whitby Wanderers on September 12.
