scarboro' shuffle pack to halt slide
SCARBOROUGH hope a new-look front row will help end a run of four successive Yorkshire League one defeats.
Skipper Nick Ingham met with coaches Dave Beck and Paul Robson as well as team manager Graeme Young immediately after Saturday’s dismal 6-0 home defeat to previously pointless Selby and the captain believes plenty of positives came out of the talks.
“There is a united front in how to move forward in the long-term, but the immediate priority is to pick up another win,” said Ingham.
“We were doing okay until a month ago but things have gone off track in the past four matches.
“The results and performances have been disappointing and we need to address that as soon as possible.”
In a bid to get back to winning ways at Skipton on Saturday, the front row has a new look. The mobile Ian Williams steps up from the Vikings to play hooker, with Matty Jones switching to prop and Jamie Drayton coming off the replacements bench to complete the revamped front row trio.
Paul Taylor will be one of the replacements while Tom Fish drops down to the Vikings.
EJ Jooste, who made his first appearance since his ankle injury when coming on as a sub in the Selby defeat, starts in the back row and number eight, with Chris Lee on the bench.
The backs are unchanged with Ingham admitting that the new faces are needing time to make their mark.
“We have quality in the back-line, it’s just a matter of getting the right combination so we can get points on the board.
“Ian Williams’ mobility at hooker will be a bonus for us while Paul Taylor is on stand-by to come as an impact player from the subs’ bench.”
Saturday’s Yorkshire One fixtures: Castleford v Bradford Salem, Dinnington v Wheatley Hills, Heath v Malton & Norton, Selby v Keighley, Sheffield v Yarnbury, Skipton v Scarborough, York v Bridlington.
