Welcome break for injury-hit Scarborough RUFC

RECOVERING ... Nino Cutino

RECOVERING ... Nino Cutino

SCARBOROUGH RUFC’s weekend break has fallen at a good time for the club, according to their Chief Executive Graeme Young.

The 1st XV are without a league fixture this weekend, meaning the likes of South African Nino Cutino and wing ace Paul White have more time to recover from injuries.

Cutino slashed his leg open while rock climbing in his native South Africa during the festive period, and his stitches came undone during the dramatic defeat at York two weeks ago.

Young said: “Nino’s stitches opened up against York and he’s having them done again.

“The weekend break has probably come at a good time for us.

“Usually we try and fill empty weekends with a friendly fixture but I think the guys are glad of a rest this week.”

The Vikings are in action at Silver Royd as they take on Guisborough.

They will be strengthened by the addition of first team number 10 Tom Harrison.

Young added: “Tom will have a run-out for the Vikings at full-back to try and brush off any post Christmas rustiness.

“Hopefully we can get a decent turnout up there for the Vikings with the first team not having a fixture.”

Young revealed the club are actively trying to fill the remaining blank weekends with competitive friendly fixtures.

Young added: “We always try and look for fixtures that will attract some interest, rather than having meaningless friendlies.

“We played Malton in a good friendly and we’re going to hopefully play them again.

“We’re also looking to arrange a friendly under floodlights too.”
