Ratcliffe experiences mixed emotions after York defeat
Scarborough RUFC’s leading try-scorer Tom Ratcliffe, pictured left, was experiencing mixed feelings after his side’s last-gasp Yorkshire One 21-20 defeat at York.
“We were still on our Christmas holidays at the start of the game and were stunned by conceding a couple of early tries and to be honest it could have been a couple more had we not tightened up at the back.
“However, we never felt out of the game although York were in a lively mood in the first quarter.”
He added: “We grew in confidence when first, Nino Cutino finished off a really well worked forwards’ try before Nick Ingham powered over and Tom Harrison kicked us into the lead.
“Losing Phil Watson at the break was a big blow but we had plenty of opportunities to put them away, I was through twice and tap tackles prevented me from scoring and young Cory Dennis also suffered the same fate. Surely it can be only a matter of time before he gets on the scoreboard.
“Eventually our discipline let us down and the game slipped away at the end.”
Ratcliffe concluded:”On the bright side we were pleased at the manner of our first half fightback and we’ll keep plugging away.
“I’m looking forward to the visit of Pontefract this weekend and a repeat of the tries we scored in a 46-40 away win.”
