Ratcliffe delighted with YMCA triumph

SCARBOROUGH RUFC centre Tom Ratcliffe was a happy man after his 63rd-minute try clinched a 17-14 victory at Huddersfield YMCA in Yorkshire One.
Leading try-scorer Ratcliffe went over for his 20th try of the season as the men from Silver Royd completed a league double over their west Yorkshire opponents.
A delighted Ratcliffe said: “We are really happy to come away from Huddersfield with a win. We were a long way from our best but showed our spirit as a unit in the way we stuck to our task in defence.
“It was great to get on the scoresheet again, I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time to finish off a great break by Craig Farrell.
“Winning in back-to-the-wall situations fires up team spirit and we can’t wait for the visit of Pocklington to Silver Royd this week.”
Ratcliffe’s centre partner Farrell, who is also the team’s backs coach, reflected: “Obviously we are pleased to get the win from what was a pretty tough game.
“We played very well during the middle part of the second half and scored enough points during that period to win the game.
“We got ourselves into some good field positions during that spell and then put enough pressure on Huddersfield to enable us to get some points on the board.
“Our try machine Tom Ratcliffe managed to sniff another try out and that proved to be enough.
“We did have to defend extremely well in the last five minutes, Huddersfield were pretty much camped on our line and we were under a lot of pressure.
“Tom Harrison controlled the game really well from fly-half and his kicking game was very impressive.
“Nick Ingham and Charlie Hoggard were first to every breakdown and deserve a lot of credit for their hard work.”
