Raw strike lifts Blues hopes

Whitby Town boss Lee Nogan saw his side take maximum points against AFC Telford to keep their Unibond premier division play off hopes alive.

Ex-Boro striker Tom Raw netted on 58 minutes to seal the three points and end the Blues’ dismal run of five games without a win.

Boss Lee Nogan was happy with the performance and is optimistic of his sides’ play-off aspirations.

He said: “It was a good display, but our home form has not been the worry for me, it is our away form that has been the problem.”

He added: “It was a good display and we deserved the three points. The next three games are massive for us because we play teams above us, I think we need to take a minimum of seven points from the games to put us in the mixer for a play-off spot.”

Pickering Town followed up a 1-0 win at Sutton United midweek with a strong performance to see off Liversedge 1-0 in the NCE premier division.

The Pikes had a goal disallowed before young striker Steve Baxter came off the bench to seal the win on 80 minutes.

Pikes chairman Tony Dunning was delighted with his side’s efforts in the two games. He said: “It was a good performance at Sutton in the week, and it was tough conditions for the lads on Saturday, but we deserved to win the game.

“We are quite happy with the way things are going at the moment, we have no injuries and we have players coming back.”

The win takes the Pikes into a busy Easter period with momentum, starting with a trip to rivals Selby Town on Wednesday.

Bridlington Town also recorded a 2-0 win against fellow strugglers Chorley to give themselves a chance of finishing off the bottom spot in the Unibond League first division.
