Pier manager hands out a final warning

WEST Pier boss Paul Romans is rallying his troops ahead of tomorrow night's Harbour Cup final against Burniston at Pickering's Mill Lane (7.30pm ko).

Burniston are in the division below their Saturday top-flight rivals, but the underdogs beat champs Edgehill in the semi-finals and already have a cup victory over Pier this campaign.

Romans said: “The lads are well up for the final but it won’t be easy as they are a good young side.

“They beat us 2-0 in the League Cup in September so we will not be taking this lightly.”

Pier’s Saturday side have not won a trophy since 1997 but Romans and his assistant Andy Spivey are hoping to change that.

He added: “Andy was in charge the last time a Pier team won some silverware so it would also mean a lot to him if we could win.”

Pier will be without the banned Ronnie Lamb but striker Paul Provins should be fit for a side skippered by Paul Cassidy.

Burniston are waiting on midfielder Dave Darling who injured his leg playing for Sunday side Spa in their McCain Cup semi-final win over West Pier Reserves.

Burniston boss Vic Hollingsworth said: “We are the first division two side to reach a major final so it is a great achievement for the club.”
