Park earn draw at Hunmanby

FISHBURN Park under-14s started the season with a difficult away match at Hunmanby.

The Sands Lane-based team narrowly beat the Whitby side to the runners-up spot in last season’s under-13s table, and on this occasion both sides earned a point from a goalless draw.

A close game was expected and things were evenly matched from the start with neither side capable of taking the upper hand.

The match was fiercely contested in the middle of the field and played in good spirit, but chances were few and far between.

Sam Porter came closest to scoring in the first half for Fishburn, when he headed narrowly wide from a corner, but by half time neither keeper had really been tested.

The second half was similar although Fishburn looked dangerous on the break, but kept getting caught off-side by a well organised defence.

Eventually, Jack Cooper did time his run right for the visitors, but as he raced through on goal he poked the ball past the advancing keeper only to see it roll wide of the post.

A moment of hesitancy from Dan Hudson in the Fishburn goal almost gifted Hunmanby a winner in the last five minutes but he recovered well to make an excellent save from close range to ensure the game ended goalless.

This result gave Fishburn their first league draw since March 2008.

FC Seamer lost out 7-1 to Phoenix, with Matty Morris on target for the visitors.

FC Seamer's man of the match was awarded jointly to Jack Holden and Adam Smith for their tireless work in defence against a rampant Phoenix outfit.
