Budapest delight for new club recruit Julie

SIX Scarborough Athletic Club members took part in the Budapest Half Marathon.

The race was over a flat course around the most beautiful parts of the Hungarian capital city, but any advantage gained by a fast course was heavily outweighed by the very high temperatures.

The hot weather presented a challenge to all six runners, and notably to Julie Graham who was racing over the distance for the very first time.

Julie was very pleased to finish in a good time in the conditions of 133 minutes and 23 seconds, alongside Jayne Holborough who was racing on the roads for the club for the first time this year, and Zona Mitchell who ran in the Prague race earlier this year.

All three were given the same finishing time, and finished well up the field of 6,000 runners from 40 countries, in a remarkable 634th, 635th and 636th in the women's race.

First to finish for Scarborough was Shaun Tymon, who ran well to clock 107.36 and 901st overall.

Leading the Scarborough women home, was Melanie Padgham, who ran the fastest time of the year by a club woman athlete at Prague. Melanie was equally impressive in the Budapest race when clocking 124.14 for 357th overall.

Harry Forkin completed the Scarborough entry in 134.45, after running with some of the Scarborough women, until the closing stages of the race.
