Allen's fine Ferriby run

EIGHT members of Scarborough Athletic Club took part in the Ferriby 10-mile road race.

The course was reasonably fast except for a challenging hill near the end, and was run in freezing but sunny weather.

The first to finish for Scarborough was Chris Allen, who was 73rd of the 491 finishers, in his best time for two years of 66.45. He was followed in 76th by Dave Shipley in 67.02.

The first of four Scarborough women to finish was Jane Hamp, who improved her lifetime best for the distance when finishing fifth of the over-45 division in 76.14.

Louise Milne and Sue Louth also ran lifetime bests when competing over the 10-mile distance for the first time. Both recorded respectable times, with Louise recording 80.45 and Sue finishing in 83.42.

Mik Lambert ran mainly to support Sharon Houghton, and finished in 87.02, while Sharon hung on well over the final miles to record 91.54 which was also her best time for three years.

Dave Reading who celebrated his 71st birthday recently, finished in 95.31.
