Oliver's hat-trick fires up Phoenix
JORDAN Oliver scored a hat-trick as his Phoenix under-13s side booked their spot in the League Cup final with a 9-0 defeat of Flamborough.
Phoenix were ahead after just seven minutes when Oliver finished off a fine passing move involving Jack Ramos, Liam Rackham and Bradley Hardman.
The advantage was doubled two minutes later when Lewis Bland volleyed in a Liam Rackham corner.
The third goal was scored by Liam Rackham after Joe Leach and Jack Scholes combined, and it was 4-0 when Oliver collected his second.
Freddie Schmuck netted the fifth and it was 7-0 at the break after Oliver completed his hat-trick and Bland scored his second.
Ellis Wilson and Oliver Stone, with a penalty, added to the list in the second half.
Phoenix will be up against their Colts in the final at Bridlington’s Queensgate after they got the better of Holt FC 2-0, with both goals from Jayden Morris.
Daniel Jones and Sean Thornton both bagged a brace apiece as Cayton ended Fishburn Park’s unbeaten home league record.
Cayton dominated early play but Park took the lead against the run of play. However, within two minutes Jones poked in a Thornton cross to equalise.
Park were back in front by the break but less than five minutes into the second half Cayton were on level terms again when Thornton picked up a Josh Lewis long ball and fired in.
Thornton was on the scoresheet again when he neatly chipped the Park keeper to restore Cayton’s advantage before Jones bagged his second.
Fishburn pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining but Cayton held firm for the points.
Cayton’s back four of Dempsey Stubbings, Lyall Carter, Brad Mollon and Glenn Johnson impressed along with Luke Haywood and man of the match Thornton.
