Normanby end Scarborough mens hockey team's unbeaten run

Scarborough 0 Normanby Park 4 Scarborough men suffered their first defeat of 2010 when they found undefeated Normanby Park too strong in their Yorkshire Hockey League division four encounter.

The home side showed a lot of character, taking the away side to the very end in a hard-fought clash.

The first half saw chances at both ends but Park enjoyed most of the possession and created many chances on goal.

Resilient defending from man of the match Paul Gibson helped the hosts go in at half-time all-square and made sure the away side would have to produce something special to get past the Scarborough back line.

It took up until 10 minutes into the second half for Park to break the deadlock, with the opener coming shortly after injured Scarborough defender Paul Watling had to be taken off.

The second goal came quickly afterwards and with eight minutes left Scarborough drove players forward to search for something from this game but it left them light at the back.

Park were able to capitalise and added a further two goals which didn't do justice to the home side's effort.

The men's team will be able to rest next weekend, while on February 20 they will host Leeds in a mid-table clash.
