Mustoe confident despite cash loss
SCARBOROUGH Cricket Club chairman Bill Mustoe is confident the club will bounce back after a bad year.
The club has made a loss of around 26,000 over the past 12 months, but a new deal with Yorkshire will go a long way towards getting things back on track.
North Marine Road will continue to stage 10 days of county cricket each summer for a decade from next year after negotiations between Yorkshire and Scarborough chiefs.
Mustoe said: “We have had a bad year, but because of the recession that was always going to be the case.
“Sponsorship was down which did make things tough, but we have been prudent in the past and weathered the storm, and I’m confident that this will be the case again.
“We have had some great news about the fact that Yorkshire will continue to play here for another decade, which is very positive.
“Not only is it great for the club, but it is also fantastic for the town.
“It will allow us to attract longer-term sponsors because we know there is a future for Yorkshire cricket in Scarborough.
“We have had several meetings with Scarborough Council’s chief executive Jim Dillon, who has been a terrific help. We are also hoping to attract some funding to help us develop the ground.”
Scarborough have been given a list of things at their North Marine Road-base that must be updated to seal the deal.
Mustoe added: “We will be working on basic spectator amenities, such as the toilets and walkways.
“Some of the seating will be upgraded as well. We are just looking to make any visit to Scarborough cricket a very special experience.”
