Lamb snaps up kayak win

Early last week there was plenty of mackerel around on most of the popular marks, the bit of north easterly wind did put them off for a few days but by the weekend they were back.

Other species appear to have quietened off, but there are still lots of small cod on most marks which are pinching baits before the bigger fish can get to them.

Last Saturday saw the Filey Brigg Kayak match, conditions had improved by match day but the little bit of sea on Thursday and Friday was enough to make the fishing tough going.

There was a mixture of fish, mainly pollock and cod, the winner was Martin Lamb with a cod of 5.4.8 who narrowly pipped Ken Oliver's 5.3.4 pollock.

Anyone who was lucky enough to win trophies in the Scarborough Angling Festival please arrange to get them back to the secretary Penny Teasdale.

Filey Brigg Kayak match result: 1 Martin Lamb Cod 5.4.8, 2 K Oliver Pollock 5.3.4, 3 Ian Pickering Cod 4.7.0, 4 Paul Hodgson Pollock 4.3.8, 5 Ben Horton Pollock 3.14.8, 6 Carl Kilbride Cod 3.13.6, 7 Robert Quinn Cod 3.10.14, 8 Sam Baxter Cod 3.10.6, 9 Geoff Elliott Cod 3.10.4, 10 Lawrie Taylor Pollock 3.9.6, 11 Simon Baxter Cod 3.1.0, 12 Mark Radcliff Cod 1.10.10, 13 Ian Sellars Cod 1.10.0.
