Half-time chat sparks Athletic

SCARBOROUGH Athletic striker Ryan Blott says the confidence is restored after last night's 1-0 NCEL Premier win at Winterton.

After a run of poor results and performances, Boro finally got the show back on the road thanks to a 90th minute winner from Scott Phillips.

But it was a half-time chat that clicked Boro back into gear, after a first period, which could have seen Brian France’s men fall a number of goals behind.

Blott explained: “We were awful in the first half, but at half-time we all sat down in the changing room and had a chat.

“There were a few cross words, but what did come from it was the fact that we need to keep the ball on the floor.

“That happened in the second half and it became a completely different game.

“We tore them to pieces at times, just because we kept it to feet, which is the game we should play.

“We were successful last season because we were playing good football.

“That was a good surface at Winterton, and because we used it, we got the result we needed.

“I was a bit surprised when it first came to my feet, I didn’t know what to do with it because the attackers have been doing a lot of chasing in recent weeks.”

Blott did reveal that the players’ confidence had taken a hefty knock after the poor run, but he is confident that they can soon get back to their old selves.

He added: “It is difficult not to be affected by it all.

“The results do tend to bother you, though it is harder on some than others.

“I think this can be the breakthrough for us. If we can continue to play like we did in the second half of that game for the rest of the season then we’ll soon be back on track.

“There were plenty more happy faces in the dressing room after that win, which is exactly what we need.
