Hackworth's home hopes
FORMER Boro favourite Tony Hackworth would love to make a return to playing his football in the town in the future.
The former Leeds United striker is having a fine season for Whitby Town in the Unibond Premier League and is set to sit down with manager Harry Dunn before the end of the season to discuss his future with the club, but the striker can see himself in the red of Scarborough again in the future.
Hackworth works in the town at the George Pindar Community Sports College and has refused to rule out one day returning to ply his trade for one of the town’s two clubs.
“I’d like to think I would return to Scarborough one day. It all depends on what happens with the clubs.
“The move back to Scarborough is massive for the town and the people in the town need their football club back. I’d love to come back one day. It was a massive club and it could be a massive club again so I would never rule it out.”
Hackworth has netted 13 goals in all competitions so far this season and wants to keep playing at the highest level possible for now though.
The former Notts County man added: “I’ve had a good season so far and I’m looking to keep that going. Obviously I want to play at the highest level I can for a few years and I am going to sit down with the manager to discuss things for next season.”
Hackworth first joined the old Scarborough FC for a six week loan from Notts County in 2004, scoring three goals, before signing permanently at the McCain Stadium the following season on a free transfer.
He then scored Scarborough FC’s last ever goal at Hucknall in the 2005/6 season before the club was liquidated. He then made the trip up the A171 to sign for Whitby and has since been made captain of the Unibond Premier League outfit.
