Wreyfield stunned by Commercial

COMMERCIAL boosted their chances of avoiding the drop from division two with a shock 5-2 victory away to previously unbeaten title hopefuls Wreyfield.

A 40-yard lob from Tim Boorer put the visitors in front, then Johnny Slater added a second, with Danny Thompson pulling a goal back to give the hosts hope.

After the break, Boorer broke the offside trap to net his second, but again Wreyfield replied, this time Nick Johnson hitting the target.

Slater's second goal and a Peter Noble effort sealed the win for a hard-working Commercial outfit.

Castle Tavern suffered a jolt to their promotion push with a 3-1 defeat at home to second-placed Trafalgar Reserves.

Darren Anthony's header put Traf in front at the interval, and although Castle levelled early in the second half, Traf secured the points with goals from Luke Jenkinson and Rich Hewitt.

Staxton came out on top in their vital clash at relegation rivals Merchant, the village team securing a 2-0 success.

Johnny Lane headed the visitors in front from a fine Mark Dove cross.

Ten minutes into the second half, Peter Ellis scored Staxton's second goal after good play from Elliott Cooper. Left-back Tom Nicholson won the man-of-the-match award for Staxton.

Angel edged closer to title glory with a 7-1 success at home to Tonics, which included five goals for the hosts in the first eight minutes.

Moxy Wood opened the scoring for the leaders after just 40 seconds with a 20-yard lob.

Further goals from Paul Provins, Jon Scarborough, Travis Wood, and Provins again steered Angel into an unassailable lead.

Ben Stanley replied before the break, but two fierce long-range strikes from Neil Thomas, the second a 25-yard free-kick, after the interval hammered home the victory for Jamie Towse's team.

Thomas was named as the man of the match for Angel for a superb display at the heart of the midfield.

West Pier Reserves won 1-0 at home to Strongwood Reserves, with Chris Watson claiming the only goal of the game.
