Scarborough Town title hopes may be grounded
SCARBOROUGH Town's Wearside League title hopes could be hit by the fixture backlog.
Because of the postponement of several matches over recent weeks, they will now have to play a number of games in midweek.
As there is no floodlit football pitch in the Scarborough area, title-chasing Town may well have to sacrifice home advantage and play some games away.
Town are currently second in the Wearside League, and are also pushing for glory in the League Cup and Shipowners Cup.
Boss Mitch Cook said: "We have a huge backlog of fixtures and there doesn't seem to be any let-up in the poor weather.
"We may end up having to forfeit home advantage in a lot of our games that have to be played in midweek as there are no provisions for playing floodlit football in Scarborough.
"We have been striving to produce a floodlit facility at Pindar School, but unfortunately we are constantly being knocked back.
"This could spell the downfall of any success for us this season because playing each midweek game away from home will certainly take its toll.
"Not only will this be a problem for the team but it also becomes a problem for the club financially as we don't have the opportunity to collect the 2 that we charge each spectator at our home games."
