Noon hits four as depleted Trafalgar Reserves held at home by Merchant

a depleted Trafalgar Reserves were held to a 4-4 draw at home by Merchant.

The hosts started the game with only nine players, but they still took a 2-0 lead after only 20 minutes thanks to an Andy Noon brace.

When the 10th player arrived shortly afterwards, it seemed to spark Merchant into action.

Gareth Olney pulled a goal back with a fierce 30-yard free-kick, and Neil Fryirs then levelled the scores.

Noon scored a goal either side of the interval to restore Traf's two-goal lead, but Fryirs and Andrew Waggitt scored to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.

Left-back James Bryan was Merchant's star player, while Dean Craig marked his return from injury with a top display for Trafalgar.

Castle Tavern boosted their promotion hopes with a 4-1 win at third-placed Strongwood Reserves.

The home side made a bright start and took the lead through Jim-Bob Binnie's stunning 30-yard shot.

But a brace of goals from Andy Dickinson, along with strikes from Jon Cairns and Kev Hodgson, secured the win for the visitors.

The Strongwood man of the match was full-back Dave Pallister, while Danny Eade also impressed.

Commercial's recent recovery continued with a 1-0 home victory against Tonics.

Tim Boorer had a first-half penalty saved before going off injured, with another key man, Mike Clark, also limping off with a knock.

Pete Noble scored the winner from close range in the 75th minute for Geoff Osguthorpe's resurgent side.
