ON THE ATTACK ... West Pier's Gaz Thomas

FILEY Flyers pulled off one of the shock results of the season, winning 4-1 at division one title-chasers West Pier.

The home side, who have won all nine of their league games this season, looked to be in the driving seat when Jamie Bradshaw opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, running across the Filey defence and beating the keeper with his shot.

Flyers stepped up a gear after the break and five minutes into the second half Josh McKaig levelled for the visitors with a lobbed shot over Pier keeper Scott Wardman, after a fine knock-down by Phil Dickens.

On the hour mark Tom Haxby controlled the ball with his left foot and fired in a stunning right-foot volley from 20 yards that fizzed past the helpless Wardman.

A similar strike from Haxby made it 3-1 and then eight minutes from time, player-boss Martyn Jenkinson set up McKaig to lob Wardman from 25 yards to seal the victory.

Returning centre-back Lee Eblet shone for Flyers with striker Bradshaw a constant danger for Pier.

Seamer booked their place in the semi-finals with a 5-3 win at fellow second division side Fylingdales.

Luke Jones opened the scoring direct from a corner for Seamer, an Andy Noon own goal levelling the scores.

Jones restored the lead with a replica of his first effort, Dan Layton adding a third to put the visitors in charge.

The hosts refused to buckle and made it 3-3 with goals from the hosts’ man of the match Paddy Chandler and Jake Faichney.

With 10 minutes to go, a 20-yard free-kick from midfielder Joe Danby put Seamer back in front, and then James Seymour’s header from a corner confirmed their spot in the semis.

Danby was named as the Seamer man of the match for a commanding display in midfield.
