Former Scarborough FC striker Chris Senior looks back on his time at the club with fond memories.

Senior, who scored 18 league goals in two seasons at Boro, was shocked when he returned to the town and discovered the fate that had befallen the McCain Stadium.

The former Huddersfield, Darlington and Halifax man said: “I came back to visit Scarborough with my family and I couldn’t believe it when I saw that the stadium had gone and there was just rubble.

“It is very sad what happened to Boro, another one of my former clubs Darlington almost went under as well, it isn’t nice to see at all.

“I still follow Scarborough Athletic and it is a sad state of affairs to see where they are now. However, I have some great memories of my time at the old club.

“Playing against Chelsea was a huge highlight of my time at Boro but doing the double over York City in 2004/05 was brilliant as well.

“I scored the goal that put us 1-0 up in something like the 89th minute of the away game with York that season.

“Turning around and seeing two and a half thousand Boro fans celebrating and going crazy was incredible. It is a sight that I will never forget and it brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.

“The York fans haven’t forgotten about that either. I have played against them a few times since then and I always get some banter off them.

“I am also proud to have been part of the side that went unbeaten all season at home in 2004/05.

“That was quite a feat and if it wasn’t for our away form being so poor we could have been challenging for promotion.”

Senior is currently on loan at Blue Square North outfit Guiseley from Blue Square Premier side Alfreton Town.

He added: “I am still enjoying my football, I was in and out of the side at Alfreton so I came to Guiseley for a month on loan.

“It went really well so we extended the deal until the end of the season.

“We are currently near the top of the table and hopefully we will go up.”
