Danny Jenkinson is waving goodbye to Scarborough Town

DANNY Jenkinson is leaving Scarborough Town to set sail on a new adventure.

The tough-tackling 18-year-old is departing tomorrow to take up a role as a weapons' technician in the Royal Navy.

Jenkinson, who currently works as a labourer, was hoping to see the season out with both the Scarborough Academy under-19s and Town, but today's clash with Wolviston was his last before travelling south for training in Plymouth.

He said: "Going into the Navy is something I have been looking at for a while, it will just be something different.

"I am going on nine weeks o training in Plymouth, then I'll be working flat out for six months after that. I'm hoping to keep the football up as I know a few lads that have gone out and played regularly in America with the Navy.

"I wish I could have finished the season with Town and the under-19s, but it hasn't worked out like that.

"I will be back over the next few weeks though for a short while, so hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in the odd game.

"I have had a great time with Mitch Cook and the whole set-up after joining up a number of years ago. I came right the way through the school of excellence with a lot of the lads and now, with Town, we are still playing together."

Town boss Cook added: "We picked Danny up at the age of eight and signed him as a player at 11.

"All the way through he has been a great lad and a good player. He now has a reputation as a player who will tackle anyone or anything.

"He has been doing brilliantly with the under-19s, and because of that he has broken into the Town team. If he was still around then I'm sure he'd be a regular in future.

"Danny has chosen his career and we are delighted for him but if he ever ends up in this part of the country again then we'd be delighted to have him back."
