Brannan’s Filey secure derby bragging rights after Hunmanby win

FILEY Town secured the derby day bragging rights after beating fierce rivals Hunmanby United 5-2 at Sands Lane.
Dave Brannan’s men were comfortable throughout their clash against relegation-threatened Hunmanby, despite a spirited display from their hosts.
They were 1-0 ahead when former United player Ricky Tomlinson made it 1-0.
But Martin Jenkinson tapped in at the back post to level things up.
But Town charged straight back into the lead through Stu Dickens and then Cameron Dobson struck to make it 3-1 at half-time.
Tom Rees halved Town’s advantage when he made it 3-2, but a Phil Dickens double, his second a penalty after United keeper Jonny Hyde fouled Stu Dickens in the area, rounded things off at 5-2.
Brannan said: “We were never really troubled by Hunmanby, but they never gave in and deserve plenty of credit.”
West Pier confirmed their tag of title favourites as they thrashed relegation candidates Scalby 7-0 at Carr Lane to move within a point of leaders and champions Edgehill, with two games still in hand on their rivals.
An ice-cool finish from full-back James Wardle made it 1-0 after 20 minutes, Scalby withstanding a massive amount of Pier pressure in the opening exchanges. A Tommy Barker strike into the top corner meant Pier led 2-0 at half-time against their depleted hosts.
Former Scalby ace Barker scored with a superb curling effort after the interval to make it 3-0 before Paul Provins tapped in after a good save from Scalby keeper Matty Scott for 4-0.
Danny Cooper rounded off a neat team move to make it 5-0 when he slotted into the bottom corner after he was sent clean through on the Scalby.
Scalby keeper Scott then fumbled into his own net to give Martin Cooper a goal and to make it 6-0 to Spivey’s men, before Neil Thomas’ whipped cross was turned past his own keeper by veteran centre-back Kev Sunderland to finish it at 7-0.
Ayton picked up maximum points from their clash against a galvanised Westover Wasps side with a 3-2 success.
Ayton were a goal to the good when Daz Hastie released James Young to fire in, but Isaac Sands levelled for Chris Townsend’s men.
Hastie then set up Carl Sample to make it 2-1, before a 25-yard strike from Chris McNeil made it 3-1 to the home side.
Sands netted his second but Ayton held on for the 3-2 win.
