Boro boss Rudy’s transfer tester

RUDY Funk has been left with a transfer tester this season.

The Scarborough Athletic boss feels that players’ worries have got in the way of boosting his NCEL Premier promotion pushing side.

Either players have failed to adapt to playing in front of Boro’s large crowds or they have been too scared to set foot on the Queensgate turf in front of the average following of around 450 fans.

He said: “When Brian France took over as manager after the club was formed, everybody wanted to play for the club.

As time wore on and after the club got promoted Brian told me that it became harder and harder to bring players in.

“This was because of the pressure and the expectation level at Scarborough Athletic.

“It is no different for clubs like AFC Halifax Town, Chester City or FC United. They will all feel the same.

“The players we have at the club currently have adapted to playing in front of big crowds and the expectation that is placed upon them.

“That hasn’t been the case for everyone though. The first question I always get asked by a new players is ‘What is it like?’ and I have to tell the truth.

“Sometimes the truth works against me and the player turns us down.”

Funk is predicting exciting times ahead though, as a number of new faces have already committed to next season’s cause.

He added: “Quite a few lads have given us the nod for next season, though they are currently at clubs so we have to respect their status. It wouldn’t be right to take them before the current season finishes.

“There are exciting times lying ahead for this club.”
