Adamson’s high hopes for new sports village
BORO chairman Richard Adamson ‘remains convinced’ the Weaponness Valley Sports Village project will happen.
Speaking at the club AGM and fans forum on Friday evening at Scarborough Cricket Club, Adamson reported to the club’s Society Members from a meeting held with Scarborough Borough Council’s strategic director Hilary Jones.
He said: “I had a meeting on Thursday with Hilary Jones, who gave me an update of where the council are at with the Sports Village project.
“At the moment the council are going through a due diligence process with the nine developers who have expressed an interest in the project.
“I understand the council will put together a shortlist of companies, before going going to the next stage of the process - which will involve planning briefs and consultions.
“I’m convinced that this project will happen, and the council are putting a lot of effort and work into making it happen.
“At the moment we are focused on working alongside the council to provide a new home for Scarborough Athletic FC, and I’m very confident that in a few months time things will start to pick up speed.”
At the AGM members approved the accounts for the club’s financial year ending May 31 2010.
A deficit of over £9,000 was reported for the year, of which £2,700 was written off as bad debt.
This follows a £7,000 surplus at the end of the previous year to May 31 2009.
Boro’s Finance Director Geoff Osguthorpe, who was elected to serve as a full board member at the AGM, said: “The year was extremely hard off the pitch.
“Due to a number of factors the merchandising income fell short of what we hoped to achieve.
“We also saw a downturn in advertising and sponsorship - which was disappointing but nevertheless understandable in the economic climate over the past year.
“However there are good signs this year that we are on course to at the very least break even, and hopefully claw back some of last year’s deficit.
“The directors are doing all they can to increase profitability across the whole club, and at present we are in a positive position financially.”
Club turnover for the year was reported as being £90,000. That is £40,000 less than the previous year’s turnover of £130,000, during which the NCE division one title was won.
It was also reported that as of May 31 this year, the club held reserves of just under £20,000, including £3,800 in the Back2Boro campaign account.
Six months on, that fund, which is ring-fenced for use at the new Weaponness stadium, currently stands at £5,533.
Many other items were discussed at the meeting, including the club’s new under-19 set-up, the Reserves squad progress, the signing of Dean Windass, and issues with security at the games against landlords Bridlington Town.
Also on the agenda was proposals to implement new fees for Society memberships, and a change to the democratic election process - both of which will be discussed in the new year and voted on at an Extraordinary General Meeting in the Spring.
And the club’s board election results were announced.
Previous board members Wendy Danby, Tony Brown, Sandra Troughton and John Clarke were re-elected, while Finance director Geoff Osguthorpe became a full board member following a year co-opted.
Chris Rooke was also elected onto the board by the club’s members, after originally serving on the original Seadog Trust committee.
Adamson concluded: “It was a very positive meeting - as all our forums usually are.
“It’s great to be able to get 50 or 60 Boro fans into a room and discuss the club and it’s future - especially on such a foul night.
“All the directors are happy to answer questions if possible, and I would encourage fans to ask us if they have a query.
“We have a Q&A system through our website, and we are happy to help supporters - both current and potential new ones - with any questions they have.”

Soggy Moggy
Monday, November 29, 2010 at 01:14 PMSorry, but I just don't believe it anymore. Too much has not been done, with far too little in the way of honesty not been said, by them for this poor befuddled 'Soggy Moggy' ever to believe in our SBC anymore! You, the reader however, may well think a bit differently?
