Farrell all set for big kick-off

SCARBOROUGH Rugby Club's new recruit Craig Farrell can't wait for the new Yorkshire One season to get underway.

Not only will the former Hull FC and Batley rugby league player be keen to make his mark on the pitch, but he is also focusing some of his attention on the coaching set-up at Silver Royd.

Scarborough slipped to a disappointing derby defeat a week last Saturday in the Yorkshire Shield clash at rivals Malton, but Farrell is confident that they can bounce back at home to Dinnington this weekend.

He said: "The whole thing is a bit new to me because I haven't played much rugby union since I left school.

"I really enjoyed the pre-season run-out at Redcar, even though I did pick up a groin injury in that game.

"I was impressed with what I saw from the lads as well. Everyone has trained well, the intensity is good, as is the quality. We just need to start picking up the results now.

"I understand that we made a few wrong decisions in the backs against Malton, but that is something we have been working on since and we will aim to put it right when the season gets underway."

Farrell is still adapting to life after switching codes, and he does feel that it will take him a bit of time.

He added: "Rugby league does seem a lot quicker to union, and I only made three tackles in the game at Redcar, compared to the 35-40 tackles I would have made in a rugby league match.

"The scrums and line-outs are so technical, but generally, there isn't a massive difference.

"I'm sure it will take me a bit of time to get used to the rucks and the mauls, which seem a bit foreign, but I can't see it taking that long to get my head around everything."
