Errington stars as Ladies draw

SCARBOROUGH Ladies open-age campaign got off to a strong start last Sunday away at Norton and Stockton Ancients.

The 2-2 draw, played at Chester-le-Street's Moor Park, was a great result considering Adam Stubbs' side had just one available defender due to holidays and injury.

Making their debuts for the side were Selina Marsay, who has stepped up from last year's under-16s, and Gemma Magson, while fellow debutant Heidi Dhont was the only substitute.

Left-winger Natalie Wilford donned the keeper gloves, while Jo Young and Louise Middlemas joined Jolene Hull and Amy Spivey in defence.

Regulars Katie Welham, Kayla Haxby and Laura Errington were joined by Magson in midfield, while Marsay partnered Natalie Davies up front.

Ancients went one nil up after about 20 mins with a flick from a cross which wrong-footed Wilford.

However, Boro soon equalised when Errington converted a cross from Marsay.

Boro went 2-1 up ten minutes later, Davies slotting home a pull-back from man-of-the-match Errington.

The home side equalised in early in the second-half from a free-kick which Wilford got a hand to it but couldn't keep out.

Errington hit the post after 70 minutes, and Marsay saw a shot cleared from the line by the keeper as Boro looked for a winner.

Although it didn't come the point was a good one on the road to start the North East Regional Women's League season.

The Ladies are at home to Redcar on Sunday - kick-off at McCains at 2pm.

Team vs Norton and Stockton: Natalie Wilford, Amy Spivey, Jo Young, Louise Middlemas, Jolene Hull, Laura Errington, Michaela Haxby, Katie Welham, Gemma Magson, Natalie Davies, Selena Marsay. Sub: Heidi Dhont
