Dabill edges out home ace Brown

An eager crowd came out in force to witness the first round of the ACU British Trials Championship at Low North Camp.

Heavy rain and overnight frost made for a challenging course giving riders the headache of wet, slippery conditions to contend with.

Hoping to get his title challenge off to a good start was local ace Michael Brown who missed out on top spot to his good friend and rival James Dabill, the current British champion.

Dabill from Leeds was on top form showing the field just why he wears the number one bib.

He dominated from the start edging out Brown on each section throughout the day.

Speaking after the event Michael commented: “It has been a difficult day, the sections were very slippy and it has been a hard trial. I have had some good rides but also some poor rides.

“A second place is a great result for me and with seven rounds to go I will be fighting for victory at the next round in Scotland.

“I would like to thank the organisers for what has been a tough enjoyable day, and my minder Shaun Galway.”

Third place went to Jack Challoner of Halifax who was surprised by his position as he commented after the event: “I thought I had not ridden well so am pleased with this result”

Good news came in the Expert Class with Ian Austermuhle, from Rosedale, taking the victory by a comfortable 11-point gap.

Holding of challenges from Jonny Walker and Gary Macdonald from Kinlochleven.

Ian really was on form in front of his local fans and showed some of his younger rivals how to ride the big steps and slippery banks.

The popular rider now takes his campaign to Scotland in April hoping to continue his current form.

Scarborough & District Motor Club would like to thank everyone who has supported the event yet again for making it a huge success.
