SCARBOROUGH’S top young cricketing prospects have been put through their paces by Yorkshire County Cricket Club coach Tony Pickersgill.

The Scarborough Cricket Development Group Elite Squad’s under-12s were treated to a visit from one of the county’s top coaches, who ran the rule over the town’s most promising talent through a series of drills at Scarborough Rugby Club’s Silver Royd sports hall.

Yorkshire’s under-11s are all set to tackle Roses rivals Lancashire at North Marine Road on Tuesday July 17, and Flixton’s Will Hutchinson, Dan Ward, Harrison Wood and Cain Robb are all with a shout of being part of the squad for that fixture.

They were joined by Finlay Morris, Rob Bradley, Kieran Glave, Joe Ferrie, David Snowball, Alec Drury and Joe Harland at the specially-run session at Silver Royd, organised by the Development Group’s Cricket Development Officer John Green.

Discussing the prospects of the four possibly heading for Yorkshire selection, Green said: “If we have to single out any of the young lads, these four have to be in for special praise.

“Cain is only eight years old, but he hits the ball harder than most 15-year-olds. Tony has been really chuffed with Cain and he is set for a good future in the game.

“Will is an opening batsman with a superb eye and technique. He scores runs consistently and is looking like a real prospect.

“Harrison is a leg spinner who turns the ball and bowls in good areas, and Dan is able in all areas of the game. He bats, bowls and fields well and could probably keep wicket well too.

“But as a whole, the group are doing really well and continue to improve and progress as cricketers.

“The work we’ve been doing with the town’s young cricketers is starting to reap the rewards and we’re plugging the gap between playing locally and playing for the county.”
