HIGH HOPES ... Bill Mustoe 113307h
SCARBOROUGH Cricket Club chairman Bill Mustoe has given his full backing and support to newly-appointed first XI skipper Andrew Simpson.
Simpson has replaced Piet Rinke in the captaincy role at North Marine Road after he returned to his native Zimbabwe at the end of last season.
Mustoe is pleased with the appointment of Simpson, who he expects to continue the superb work in bringing on the area’s local talent, started by former skipper Rinke.
He said: “We’re delighted with the appointment of Andrew as first team captain at Scarborough Cricket Club.
“Andrew is an exceptional opening batsman and gets through a lot of over as well.
“I have every confidence that he will be a superb captain for the club. It will do him a lot of good as well and everyone is happy that he is going to take the role on.
“David Byas is happy too and is looking forward to working with Andrew.”
Mustoe is keen for the club to continue its policy of nurturing the town’s local prospects ahead of looking further afield for their talent.
He added: “I don’t envisage us bringing in an overseas player again this year.
“We have an excellent track record of bringing young players on and will look to continue doing just that.”
