STAITHES all-rounder Ryan Gibson starred with the ball in Pune during the England Elite Development Group under-16s/17s India tour opener on Monday.

The Fyling Hall pupil, who performed superbly for Beckett Premier League outfit Staithes last season, as well as turning out for Marton in the North Yorkshire & South Durham League, took two wickets during a tight spell at Pune Cricket Club against a Pune Representative XI.

Gibson’s spell comprised of seven overs, one maiden, two wickets for 21 runs.

Gibson’s wickets came via an LBW and when he had a Pune batsman caught.

The Staithes man, who looks likely to be stepping up to Yorkshire Premier League level and signing for Yorkshire Academy this summer, has also been busy off the pitch, visiting an orphanage this week.

Gibson said: “The trip has been awesome so far.

“It has been a great learning experience for me.

“We did a community project where we visited an orphanage and then coached some of the local kids in the afternoon, which was a great thing to do.

“We won easily in the first match against a Pune Representative XI. I took two wickets in my spell. I’m enjoying it a lot.”
