New skipper Simpson hoping to learn from past mistakes

NEW Scarborough Cricket Club‘s new first XI skipper Andrew Simpson is hoping to fair a little better as a skipper than he did in his first foray into the world of captaincy.
Simpson captained his former club Hull before moving to Scarborough, and he admitted to enduring a stressful tenure in the role.
He said: “I captained at Hull for a season. To be honest it was very stressful.
“But I’m hoping I am older and wiser now and will improve as a captain and as a player.”
The 28-year-old opening batsman admitted his joy at following on from some big names who have captained Scarborough in the past.
He added: “To follow on from the likes of David Byas is great. The main pull of Scarborough Cricket Club is the ground, that’s the main reason I joined and to be captain now is great.”
Simpson hopes to continue the progress his predecessor Piet Rinke made with the town’s young talent, while also adding the right blend with older players.
He added: “There needs to be the right mix of youth and experience.”

Monday, March 12, 2012 at 01:18 PMback in the 70s, used to spend each Summer Saturday when Scarborough were at home, Cheese and Marmite sandwiches, flask of coffee, that pleasant lady in the tea room, cold wind blowing but we didn't mind . . . . happy days at North Marine Road. Best memories: watching England play West Indies and Australia - 2 amazing games with all the top players of the day
