SCARBOROUGH looks set to host an extra Yorkshire CCC fixture this year with news that the Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with the Unicorns on May 27 will be held at North Marine Road.

Although the tie looks likely to be held at Yorkshire’s last remaining outground, it will be classed as an away fixture.

Yorkshire and Scarborough Cricket Club have a contractual agreement that 10 days of first class cricket will be played at North Marine Road every season, and the Unicorns clash will be an additional fixture for the town.

Scarborough Cricket Club chairman Bill Mustoe said: “The contract is in the process of being signed for the Unicorns match.

“It would be great to get an 11th day of first class cricket at Scarborough this year and we hope it will be a popluar fixture.”

In addition to the extra game being held at North Marine Road, the club have been given the LV County Championship tie against Leicestershire between May 2-5.

It was thought that Scarborough would host the Hampshire clash that starts on May 16, but the ECB have selected that clash to be covered live on Sky Sports, and North Marine Road is still unable to facilitate a fully televised fixture.

Mustoe added: “Unfortunately the ECB marked the Hampshire game for television and we’re still unable to host a fully televised game here at Scarborough.

“It’s something we’re looking at for the future at Scarborough. It would be a great addition for both the club and the town.

“We’d have preferred that game to have been later in the month, but I’m sure it will still be popular nonetheless.”

Yorkshire will be in town to play their Friends Life t20 clash against Nottinghamshire Outlaws on June 24, their CB40 match against Warwickshire Bears on August 27 and their LVCC game against Gloucestershire on August 28-31.

Following a successful festival in 2011, Mustoe is now hoping for a repeat in 2012.

He added: “The festival was received brilliantly last year.

“People who came were complimentary in their comments about the new facilities at the ground, and head groundsman John Dodds has put in a lot of work in improving the outfield even further. So we’re confident people will be impressed this year.”
