Craig fires Town to away victory
SCARBOROUGH Town surged to a 5-0 win at Guisborough Town HC last night to keep their Wearside League title hopes on track.
The home side played most of the second half with just nine men after having a man sent off either side of the half-time interval.
Town coach Mitch Cook was delighted with his side’s display, especially left-back Dean Craig, who scored one goal and set another up in a superb all-round display.
Cook said: “Dean was our best player on the night, but it was also very good to see the likes of Robbie Hawkes and Jamie Patterson in action, Robbie playing the first half and Jamie playing an hour.”
Mark Barber opened the scoring for the visitors with a fiercely-struck free-kick in the first half, and towards the end of the opening period Guisborough had a man sent off for a tackle from behind on Town ace Wayne Brooksby.
Early in the second half, another Guisborough player headed for an early shower after a late challenge on Joel Ramm.
From this point on, Town took full advantage of their extra two players, Craig making it 2-0 with a low shot and sub Joe Danby helping himself to two goals.
Danby’s double caps a fine week for the youngster, as he also scored both goals in the Academy under-19s’ cup defeat at Pickering on Monday night.
Craig’s fine burst from defence sealed a five-star display from the visitors, the left-back beating the Guisborough back four and setting up an easy chance for Josh Greening to make it 5-0.
Town will be eager to continue this fine scoring form in Saturday’s home game with Wolviston.
