FORMER Scarborough Town manager Mitch Cook has been named as the new boss of Pickering Town.
Cook takes charge of the Mill Lane club following the shock resignation of Mark Wood on Sunday after a less than impressive start to the NCEL Premier division season.
Former assistant manager Sean Chapman joined Mark Wood in leaving the club, while club physio Archie Gilmore will keep his post.
Cook will be a familiar face for a number of the players at the club having signed keeper Kevin Martin at the age of 17 while manager at Guiseley, and worked alongside centre back Michael McNaughton at the old Scarborough Football Club.
A delighted Cook said: "Obviously it's something I'm looking forward to. It's disappointing for a club when a manager resigns and Mark Wood did a good job over three years and brought through a lot of young Scarborough lads.
"They have had a poor start to the new season and Mark has been big enough to hand in his resignation.
"We will start with arguably the hardest game of the season at Brid on Saturday but hopefully with a new manager coming in the players will want to prove themselves.
"Every player will need to play well and every position will be up for grabs.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the team at training and getting going with the new role.
"I tried to achieve something with Scarborough Town and it unfortunately didn't work out, so hopefully we can make something happen here."
Pikes chairman Keith Usher is delighted to land Cook and has indicated he will back his new manager in the transfer market.
"We're pleased we managed to get Mitch here to Pickering Town.
"It was a shock losing Mark but fortunately Mitch was available and we will back him whichever way he wants to take things on the pitch."
