Cliff win keeps title bid alive

NORTH CLIFF A are keeping up the pressure in a bid for Saturday League division one honours and followed up their 13-1 success at home to Dukes Park A with a 14-1 victory away to Westgate A.

Cliff scored 251 of the possible 252 shots in the match, losing just one of the 12 individual games 21-20, although they were also fortunate in winning two games 21-20.

Big winners for Cliff were Steve Price 21-7 and Simon Roberts 21-11.

Pam Watts was Westgate’s heroine, grabbing their single match point with a 21-20 success.

Champions Borough A are also giving nothing away as they strive to retain the title.

Away to Eastfield A, who played with a man short, Borough powered to a 13-2 success with their big wins coming from Mick Gates 21-5, Nigel Trotter 21-8 and Steve Taylor 21-9.

Gaining points for Eastfield were Mick Hill 21-15 and John Burton 21-18.

Hunmanby A enjoyed an 11-4 success away to Borough B when Jeff Heaton won 21-8, while Gerry Stafford replied with a 21-9 for Borough.

It was a double fixture day for Borough B, but they fared no better in their other game, away to Dukes Park B, and went down 11-3.

Best for Park were Muriel Cooper 21-2 and Alan Standing 21-7, while Jo Gates 21-11, Di Purdy 21-14 and Lynn Gates 21-17 earned the points for Borough.

Eastfield B notched an 11-4 victory at Dukes Park B, despite the close 220-216 aggregate advantage.

Ted Owens and Ron Casson both won 21-13 for Eastfield, while H Coles 21-10 and veteran Cyril Rothery 21-11 were Park’s biggest margin winners.
