Cliff land big honour

SOUTH Cliff Rabbits held on to win the Alliance Trophy for the second year running at Flamborough.

Top scorers for South Cliff in the final round were Keith Corcoran and Mick Boothroyd with a well-earned 65.

Boothroyd, a past Flamborough member, made good use of his course knowledge to score well on the early holes with Corcoran, returning after a seven-week injury layoff, making an impression as the round progressed.

Other scores to count for South Cliff were Pete Lyth and John Gibson with 70 and Dave Wilson and Brian Thompson also with 70.

The winning score on the day came from Flamborough pair Rich Leeson and Paul Walker who took full use of home advantage to card an excellent 64.

South Cliff went into the day with a nine-shot lead over second-placed Driffield.

Driffield played well but could only pull back two shots, leaving South Cliff the winners by a seven shot margin.

Final totals at the end of the competition were South Cliff 1402, Driffield 1409 and Malton in third place with 1412.

South Cliff were also winners of the Les Clarkson Trophy, the parallel par-three competition, with a score of 202, five shots clear of second-placed Kirkbymoorside.

Cliff rabbit captain Brian Thompson said: “It’s been a wonderful season with three trophies already won. Over 30 players have represented the club and the level of enthusiasm and commitment has been incredible. It has been a team effort all the way.”
