boro move for Pikes ace Clough
PICKERING Town's flying attacker Darren Clough could be on his way to Scarborough Athletic.
Boro have put in the seven-day notice for Pickering Town’s Clough, which is required before clubs can talk to the player they are chasing.
Former Scarborough Town attacker Clough shone for the Pikes in their 2-1 defeat of Boro last weekend.
One player heading the other way could be Danny Gray, as Pickering have put in seven days for the Athletic frontman. Gray, an ex-Pike, has seen his opportunities at Boro limited this season, due to injury and an influx of strikers.
Boro chief Brian France said: “I will talk to Danny at the weekend about the situation, then we’ll see what happens.
“Darren is a lad who trained with us in the past. He did very well last week, and would add something else to the side.
Neither deal will be done in time for Boro’s NCEL Premier clash at home to “bogey side” Nostell tomorrow.
France will be missing defenders Danny Moore and Dave Kemp through suspension, while Carl Wood and striker Rob Northen are injured.
Athletic have yet to beat their West Yorkshire rivals in three attempts.
Nostell beat Boro over two legs of last season’s Presidents Cup final, they then saw off Boro in the away game early this term.
The Boro boss added: “Nostell have been a bit of a bogey side for us, so we do owe them one in this game.
“The win against Winterton will have done us a lot of good, now we just need to keep our focus and build on that.
“The likes of Mark Griffin, Craig Palmer and Mike Gibson all did well and that will help their confidence.”
l Boro have also moved to sign striker Bill Law from Barton Town, though defender Duane Grace has moved to Pontefract.
