Bad light stops play in merit

DUSK brought an early end to an exciting drawn pairs merit competition staged at Bridlington Westgate BC on Sunday - those having reached the final deciding to share the prize money, it being too dark to play.

Thirty-six players took part in the round robin style competition with the winners of four mini-leagues going into the semi-finals.

At that stage Geoff Watson (Whitby) and Edwin Steele (Westgate) beat Dave Moment (North Cliff) and Tom Mottram (Whitby) 21-20 while Harold Hill (Dukes Park) and Tom Donald (Westgate) beat Leigh Deighton (Dukes Park) and Neil Leddingham (Hunmanby) 21-14.

As darkness fell and with no chance of a final being completed, the finalists decided to share the winners’ and runners-up prizes.

On Sunday Dukes Park BC will stage a singles merit competition and the following Sunday there will be a singles merit at Westgate BC, both starting at 9am.
