Austermuhle takes series win
Scarborough and District Motor Club held the final round of their club series at Harwood Dale on Sunday with a great turn out of almost 70 riders.
Weather conditions proved slightly severe, but at least the heavy rain damped the observers down so they didn`t get blown away in the strong winds.
Beta UK rider Ian Austermuhle proved oblivious to conditions and brightened proceedings up with a fantastic ride in a well supported masters class, only the awkward rocks of section four grabbing five off him. James Carr never got to grips on this one to lose a maximum and Adam Milner didn`t fare much better on 11.
It was left to the hard-riding Josh Sprintall to mount a strong challenge as he almost matched Austermuhle here, but eight lost on the first section meant he had to settle for runner-up berth.
Shaughan Galway won a strong expert class from the stylish James Alonzo, but Alonzo had the ride of the day on section eight, the only rider to stay unpenalized.
Lee McGee snatched the Inter award while father George took care of grandaughter Mia in the well supported beginners class won by Kayleigh Beaver with a determined Elliot Woodall second.
Clubman A proved tight with Alan Williams top man from Colin Cunningham and Alan Carr.
Williams eased in front with only one lost on the difficult rocks of two, while Cunningham needed three.
Only David Humphries and Carr matched him here.
Mark Smith, the jovial little character from Whitby enjoyed his one off ride in B class staying one mark ahead of a trio of riders, Shaun Trotter, Alistair Jackson and Nigel Wallis.
With all classes well supported over the summer, Scarborough DMC would like to thank everyone involved for al their hard work and commitment.
l New British Class D Youth trials champion Dan Peace, from Kirkbymoorside, is out of action with a broken right ankle. Dan, 12 at the end of last July, stepped off his Beta-UK machine at the Y.M.S.A. trial on Sunday and landed awkwardly. He is at present in a plaster cast and will have the injury re-assesed in two weeks. He is due to resume school tomorrow.
It is unlikely that he will ride final round of the ACU Class C and D Youth championship on September 18 at Bradford.
